Tying to a Bed

In this section we will cover a cool way you can prepare a bed that has a mattress base rather than a frame for tying to in any way you like.

That’s right; You don’t need to have a bed with a metal frame if you want to tie someone to it. All you need is a base with legs. The legs don’t need to be long either – they could be only one inch long and this trick will still work amazingly.

Let’s expand on the previous module somewhat. How do you tie someone to a bed if you only have a mattress base, but no bed frame?

You could tie to the bed legs, but in the situation where the base has only 4 legs (or even 6), you may find you are more limited than you’d prefer.

One way that you can tie the lines coming from a single column tie to a bed (that doesn’t have a frame) is by taking another piece of rope and looping a larks head around one of the bed legs, then tying a round turn and two half hitches to the other legs. Do this on each side of the bed that you wish to tie to. I call this “making the rail”.

For making this “rail” I like to keep some extra rope in my kit that I care about much less than the rope I put on my partner.

Some physics:

Take care not to pull the line between bed legs tight as when you pull on the line you tie to the bed legs line, you will be increasing the amount of force rather dramatically. Leaving some slack in the line so that it forms a bit of an upside down ‘v’ will make you much less likely to collapse the legs of your bed inwards….don’t break your airBnB’s bed. 😉
