The Round Turn & Two Half Hitches

This module covers the hitch that forms the fundamental method for anchoring a line to a solid object. If part of your partner happens to be attached to the other end of that line…well…

Here we are covering something fairly simple, especially for anyone that’s been raught some basic knots and lines before. Although this is a simple enough tie to learn, its actually very useful, and very important.

This tie is used to secure a working end (the ‘tails’ left over after you’ve tied your S.C.T) to something solid, like a bed frame – This tie is called the “round turn and two half hitches”. This together with the S.C.T forms the first ‘single unit of applicable information’ that a person new to Shibari most often needs

The one thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t use the round turn and two half hitches on something that has feelings – it’s not a non-collapsing tie, so it’s not suitable for use on a person.

Just follow the above illustration showing how to complete the tie, and you’ll be playing 50 shades in no time.

Start by finding your bed legs, bed frame, or similarly solid object, and passing your working end around that once or twice.

Make your first half hitch, follow it up with a second and you’re all done.

Add another half hitch to the incoming line and you’re done.

This method of anchoring to a solid object is exceptionally strong and will pretty much never slip. Just be sure to leave about a hands span of tail left over so that the knot can ‘compact’ without the knot coming undone.
