Quick Half Hitch

A few modules bac you learned about the round turn and two half hitches.

Now lets make those half hitches lightning fast; this will be a skill you use constantly – why not give yourself a way to do it super quick, and super easy.

The following content will take you through the method for practicing the quick half hitch. This skill is immensely useful for completing (or ‘locking off’) a wide variety of ties in a very quick manner:

“Learning the quick half hitch is akin to learning the habit of dotting ‘i’s, or crossing ‘t’s; you don’t need to think about it. Hence, you are left more able to think about what you want to do with the rest of your tie, or how to connect with your partner”

  1. Recall from the previous Unit that the chest harness was about to finish with the tails coming out to the left, so, take the tails in the left hand.
  2. Place the backs of the first two fingers on the right hand on top of the tails, and hook the fingers under the lines the hitch is to be formed around: “over and under”.
  1. Pull the tails through the loop that has just been formed.
  2. One half hitch is fine if the working end of the rope is then going to be used in another part of the tie. If the remaining rope is note going to be used elsewhere, make a second half hitch. The tie is now locked off quite securely.
