Futomomo

In this module we look at a bent leg tie formally referred to as the Futomomo.

This is a wonderful multi purpose tie that can be used to create some great connection with a partner. It is also a rather comfortable tie that at the same time is surprisingly debilitating.

This is what we will cover in this module – A bent leg tie, the “Futomomo”

You may also hear this referred to as the “Futo” or “Fudo” if you’re around an English speaker that butchers non-English words, as is usually the case 😉

This is a great tie to kick start the idea of connection. One note before we begin this tie however, its name; It is called the “Futomomo” in Japanese, “frog tie” in English. Because of the unfortunate tendency for English speakers to put little effort into correctly pronouncing words in foreign languages correctly, we often shorten “Futomomo” to “Futo” which then becomes “Fudo”, with a ‘d’ where the ‘t’ should be. If you hear someone talking about a “fudo” they mean the following bent leg tie.

I would first recommend you learn the tie mechanically, as prescribed, then start trying to find ways to tie your partner where you are connecting with them. If your partner likes touch, scooch forward until your knee touches their hip, sit up on your knees as you start doing munter hitches on the opposite side of the leg, find the connection with your partners leg using the front of your thighs, if you are doing nothing with one of your hands then try resting it on their leg. Try pinning their leg in place by pressing their knee against you your stomach/chest.

If your partner doesn’t like touch, but enjoys harsh, fast movements, try pulling rope through quickly (MAKING SURE that you allow space for the lines to be pulled through in a way that will not give your partner rope burn), or handling their leg roughly by throwing it around by grabbing the bands.

If your partner likes connection from eye contact, try making eyes at them.

The possibilities are endless
